What is Klaviyo?

Klaviyo is an automated email marketing platform that integrates with Shopify. It's extremely useful as it allows one to set up email templates as well as automated flows to send said emails out.

Precycle users often ask how they can integrate Klaviyo with the Precycle Plastic Compensation Shopify App. Here we will show the step by step process on how to accomplish this.

Integration with Precycle

Klaviyo has various advanced functions that allow the user to configure the flows, and filter the runs so that they follow certain conditions. When the Precycle shopify app is installed and activated, it adds a "Precycle Contribution" product to the shop's list of products. This product can then be set up so that it is linked to the Klaviyo flows.

Let's take a look at some user cases.

Sending an email after a user contributes to Precycle

One of the most common flows is the post-purchase flow. This allows one to thank the user after they make a contribution. Klaviyo has some stock examples of this particular flow, that we can use as a base for our mock scenario. For this user case, we will create a new Flow with a trigger of Placed Order. After setting the trigger, you can add a trigger filter and set it to check if the items from the order contain a item with the name "Precycle Contribution". Finally, you can set up the Flow based on the specific traits you desire.

Let's look at it step by step:

  1. Install the Precycle Plastic Contribution App if you haven't. Follow these instructions to get more details.

  2. Go to App section in the shop's admin dashboard and select your Klaviyo App. This will take you to the Klaviyo dashboard.

  3. In the Klaviyo dashboard:

  • Go to the “Flows” subsection in the left-hand navigation menu
  • Click the “Create Flow” button in the top right corner

dashboard create flow

  • Then, choose the template “New vs. Returning”. Name your new flow and then click “Create Flow »”

create flow naming

  1. Now you are in the flow editor:

flow editor

  • Click the “Trigger” panel

  • In the left-hand menu, go to “TRIGGER FILTERS” and click “Add a Trigger Filter”

  • In the Dimension select “Items” in the ****drop down menu

  • In the Dimension value select “Precycle Contribution”

    setup of trigger filter

  • In the left panel click “Save”

This process should allow you to make post purchase flows that are only triggered when a contribution has occurred.

This is possible, because the trigger Placed Order has the option to filter based on the item ordered. If you want to limit certain Flows based on whether or not a consumer contributed, keep reading ;)

Limiting Flows to Contributors vs. Non Contributors

If you don't have a list of items in the filter options of the trigger, you can limit the flows by users that have made a compensation in the past.

In the flow editor we can utilize the Flow Filters to add a flow trigger that is based on the the past purchases from the user.

In the Flow Filters, we can choose What someone has done (or not done). Then one can further specify how the filter should work based on what is desired. For example, if we want the flow to run only to consumers that ordered Precycle Contribution product at least once in the last 30 days, we can do so here.

The final result should look something like this:
